A weekly series of hour-long curated digital conversations, NBT@Home will see artists in the NBT family engaging in one-on-one discussions with other creatives on topics including theater and the arts, community, health, and more. Each conversation is free and open to the public by going to NBT’s Facebook page and watching on Facebook Live. A five-part digital series, new NBT@Home conversations will go live at 5:30 p.m. EST each Wednesday as its 51st season resumes.

All FB Live conversations will be moderated by ChelseaDee (co-curator).

WEEK ONE

What does post-COVID-19 look like and how can Black arts be a part of creating the new normal? Featuring the producing leadership team of NBT: Sade Lythcott (CEO), Jonathan McCrory (Artistic Director).

WEEK TWO

Join us as we delve into a conversation about Afrofuturism and the music, fashion, and metaphysical philosophy of Sun Ra. Featuring multi-hyphenate artists Carl Hancock Rux and Justin Hicks - Musician.

WEEK THREE

In Part Three we discussed Pauline Hopkins, a 19th century novelist and editor and one of the early creators of Afrofuturistic ideas. Featuring author Kendriana Washington and playwright and screenwriter Keith Josef Adkins⁣⁣⁣.

WEEK FOUR

For this conversation, we focused on the work of author adrienne maree brown and the idea of pleasure activism: how embracing one’s own joy is a method of creating liberation in a system of oppression. Featuring artist-essayist-playwright Daniel Alexander Jones, creator and Afrofuturist Nia Farrell and performer, choreographer, director, playwright and activist nicHi douglas.

WEEK FIVE

Part Five is where we discussed creative resilience and the need for better language to describe the experiences of artists with disabilities as well as how creating art creates new ways of understanding. Featuring Claudia Alick, Jerron Herman, Mary Hodges, and Antoine Hunter.
